Semester/Master project
Objectives
The goal is to study decarbonization strategies for the fertilizers industry, considering seasonal energy and mass storage, electrolysis systems and district heating integration.
Profile
- Interest in renewable energy conversion systems and energy integration methods.
- Knowledge on energy systems engineering, waste heat recovery and techno-economic analysis.
- Some knowledge on Python and Lua is desirable.
Project plan
The study includes:
- Understanding the energy processes of the existing models for fertilizers production (Reforming, Electroysis, Air separation, Haber Bosch, Methanation, Carbon capture, PV panels, Cogeneration systems, Steam networks)
- Estimate waste heat recovery potential in existing models (use of Pinch Analysis)
- Integration of renewable energy and seasonal storage systems in the fertilizers industry
- Opportunity to publish conference or journal papers of the results derived from the study
- Possibility of integrating the IPESE team as master valorization in SFOE or IETS projects after completion and based on performance.
Observation
The project is a continuation of the Fertilizers case study of the AIDRES database
