Objectives

The goal is to study decarbonization strategies for the heavy industry, especially greener aluminium production

Profile

  • Interest in renewable energy conversion systems and energy integration methods.
  • Knowledge on energy systems engineering, waste heat recovery and techno-economic analysis.
  • Some knowledge on Python and Lua is desirable.

Project plan

The study includes:

  1. Understanding the energy audits of the Novelis plant
  2. Estimate waste heat recovery potential in existing infrastructure
  3. Integration of renewable energy and seasonal storage systems
  4. Direct interaction with the enterprise and manufacturers
  5. Promotion of knowledge transfer from academia to industry

Observation

The project is related to the Net Zero Lab in collaboration with Novelis Sierre and HES-SO Valais and funded by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy.
