Richemont is a Switzerland-based luxury goods holding company. Through its various subsidiaries, it produces and sells jewellery, watches, leather goods, and other accessories.

The company is committed to reduce its carbon and environmental footprint by investigating energy efficiency and process integration options for its production process.

Description of the research work

The company is proposing a semester/master project starting fall semester 2023. The project will concern the problem statement, the state of the art and a preliminary process integration analysis. Data collection on site, analysis of such data and proposition of the decarbonisation options for the process will be guided by the supervisors.

The goal will be to apply process analysis and process integration techniques to

  1. characterize the process needs (heating, cooling, air conditioning, electricity demand)
  2. explain the energy bill and identify energy saving options
  3. define the energy resources and its conversion, including the use of heatpumps and or the use of biomass as a resource
  4. investigate carbon mitigation options including carbon capture options, mineralization, electrification and efficiency gains
