Semester/Master project in collaboration with heavy industry companies

Objectives

The goal is to study decarbonization potential of using reversible solid oxide cells and supercritical CO2 cycles for a greener heavy industry

Profile

  • Interest in renewable energy conversion systems and energy integration methods.
  • Knowledge on energy systems engineering, waste heat recovery and techno-economic analysis.
  • Some knowledge on Python and Lua is desirable.

Project plan

The study includes:

  1. Understand and leverage existing detailed models of rSOC and sCO2 technologies.
  2. Evaluate the performance of the rSOC and sCO2 systems integrated to industrial applications.
  3. Simulate seasonal fuel and heat storage for an enhanced system efficiency.
  4. Estimate the cost of energy-efficient solutions in three industrial sectors.
  5. Knowledge transfer between researchers and industry.

Observation

The project is related to the Net Zero Valais and other heavy industries.
