I am a PhD student born and raised in Switzerland and it is a real joy for me to have all my relatives and friends close by. I have a background in material science and I changed my field of expertise towards urban energy systems to take a broader view of the global challenges facing society. Besides running, playing the piano and boardgames, my passion is the understanding of the multi-faceted aspect of the energy transition, with its economic, technical, environmental and social impacts.
My research
In my research, I am developing tools to support the decision-making in investment planning and operation of urban energy systems. We identify the potential for renewable energy deployment in energy communities and assess their integration in the national energy infrastructure. Our approach is to identify solutions based on the needs and expectations of various stakeholders to face global challenges, such as renewable integration and climate change mitigation. The aim is to identify effective solutions that promote compromise between stakeholders with conflicting interests.
Alongside my thesis, I have a great interest into knowledge transfer. Our research activities encourage effective collaboration with industrial partners to understand their challenges and incorporate them as research questions. In this perspective, we set up partnership with utility companies to transfer decision support tools.
In parallel to this technology transfer, I am deeply involved in the SWEET Swice project, where our lab is the leader of the work package on energy systems. It is a multidisciplinary project conceptualizing the energy transition as a socio-technical paradigm shift. The aim is to develop open-source decision tools designing urban systems based on future lifestyles promoting sustainable behaviors. To this extend, a large part of the consortium is analyzing the social aspect of the energy transition. Our responsability as energy system modeler is the consideration of individual well-being into the design of technical solutions. Since it is a governmental project, the reports, tools and outcomes from our research will assist policies making at the national level.
